BioNexus KC Science2Art Turns Scientists into Artists, Simplifies Complex Concepts with Visual Representations of Research
Kansas City, Mo. — BioNexus KC and Linda Hall Library is proud to announce the return of the BioNexus KC Science2Art exhibit and online auction for the second consecutive year. Created by scientists, all of the art displayed at the free exhibit is available for viewing at the Library through October 6 and for purchase via an online auction that ends October 19 at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Kansas City-area nonprofits.
BioNexus KC supports regional STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) advancements. Its annual Science2Art event provides a platform for scientists to describe their research through the visual arts, making complex scientific concepts more accessible.
“Science2Art stimulates scientific thinking, promotes collaboration, documents scientific discoveries, and encourages innovation across our region, all while supporting area life sciences organizations,” said BioNexus KC President and CEO Dennis Ridenour. “Since the inception of Science2Art in 2014, BioNexus KC has donated all proceeds to support STEAM programs in Kansas City.”
Over the years, BioNexus KC and the Science2Art program have collectively donated more than $140,000 for various STEAM programs across the region. Monies from the sale of Science2Art pieces this year will go to the Linda Hall Library; PREP-KC; Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; and aSTEAM Village.
“We are delighted to welcome the Science2Art exhibit back to the Linda Hall Library for a second year as we continue to strengthen our partnership with BioNexus KC and support for the STEAM ecosystem in Kansas City,” said Linda Hall Library President Dr. Eric Dorfman. “I am personally committed to exploring more avenues that marry the sciences and the arts and am thrilled that the Linda Hall Library can be a venue for this initiative. I am also honored that the Library is one of the nonprofit institutions chosen to receive funds raised by this year’s event.”
The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art curated the works from regional scientists-turned-artists that showcase their research in visually interesting ways. Every piece offers a window into the researchers’ work, capturing the essence of the fieldwork performed by these scientists and their teams.
Visitors to the Linda Hall Library are invited to experience the unique BioNexus KC Science2Art exhibit in the East Gallery during regular Library hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. They can learn more about the artwork by simply scanning a QR code that accompanies each piece on display. The code links to an in-depth description of the art, the artist’s biography, and the option to place a bid. Accessible through this link, the online auction ends October 19 at 6 p.m.
