Cerner broke ground Nov. 12 for $4.45B Three Trails Campus

On November 12, Cerner Corporation broke ground on a $4.45 billion Three Trails Campus in south Kansas City located on the former Bannister Mall and Benjamin Plaza sites. The first two office buildings and a service center are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2017 and will employ about 3,000. It is estimated that this campus project will create 16,000 jobs between 2017 and 2025, is projected to cost $2.32 billion for construction costs and $2.12 billion in carrying costs.

Children’s Mercy approved to perform pediatric heart transplants

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children’s Mercy is the first regional healthcare facility in the Kansas City region to receive approval to begin performing pediatric heart transplants. Leading the Children’s Mercy heart transplant team are two nationally-recognized experts. James D. St. Louis, MD, a board-certified thoracic and cardiac surgeon with more than 15 years of pediatric experience and Aliessa P. Barnes, MD, a board-certified pediatric cardiologist specializing in pediatric heart failure and pediatric cardiac transplantation. Steve Wyatt receives expanded responsibilities at MU

Steve Wyatt, newly appointed Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost for Economic Development in the University of Missouri’s (MU) Office of Research, assumed expanded responsibilities recently that include the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Technology Management and Industry Relations, the Broader Impacts Network, the Export Controls and Conflict of Interest offices, and the STAR Metrics and data projects. Steve is a seasoned leader with 25 years of experience at MU, and envisions developing more synergy between these groups to promote stronger collaborations with external public and private stakeholders as well as internal constituents.

Caruso Named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research

Dr. Tony Caruso, Professor of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, has accepted a part-time administrative appointment within UMKC’s Office of Research Services as an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. KU Foundation Professor succeeds Eli Michaelis as director of Higuchi Center

After 25 years, Eli Michaelis is stepping down as director of the Higuchi Center at KU. Michaelis’ successor is William Picking, Foundation Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Read more »

ACGME Appoints KCUMB Senior Associate Dean to Serve on Osteopathic Principles Committee

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently appointed John Dougherty, D.O., FACOFP, FAOASM, FAODME, FILM, to serve on its newly formed Osteopathic Principles Committee. He will play a key role in the development and implementation of standards for osteopathic-focused residency training programs, and in establishing prerequisites for allopathic physicians to enter osteopathic-focused training programs.  Dr. Dougherty currently serves as senior associate dean for clinical affairs and graduate medical education at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB).
