The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute is working with Saint Luke’s Hospital and the University of Missouri-Kansas City to organize the fourth annual Regional Translational Medicine Meeting on April 21 and 22. The goal of this meeting as with previous translational medicine meetings is to stimulate new collaborations across our region between our academic institutions and with industry.
On April 21 the meeting will start at 11:00 am and include presentations from Dr. Lynda Bonewald on musculoskeletal diseases, Dr. Peter Koulen on novel ways to diagnose chronic diseases and Dr. Jerry Wyckoff on in silico drug discovery approaches. There will also be presentations on new cancer approaches and a novel method for insulin administration using light. The day will be completed by a presentation from Maria Meyers and Jim Baxendale discussing our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Kansas City.
On Friday April 22 the presentations will start at 7:30 am at Saint Luke’s Hospital with internationally renowned cardiologist Dr. John Spertus presenting the vision of translational medicine in clinical care. Presentations will continue on Friday by Dr. Len Lozada on creating an infrastructure for translating research to clinical practice and evaluating the cost effectiveness of novel interventions by Dr. David Cohen. Additional presentations will include precision medicine, and shared decision making tools in outcomes research.
