Nearly 70 years since its founding, MRIGlobal has a new leader, and an even greater thirst for research. “Our mission is to use science and technology to create a safer, healthier, more sustainable world,” said Thomas M. Sack, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of MRIGlobal.
Sack became MRIGlobal’s fifth leader last year, responsible for the $100 million contract research organization. MRIGlobal works in global health, energy, national security and defense, all areas that touch life sciences.
Sack has deep Midwestern roots. He began his career at MRIGlobal nearly 30 years ago, as a college intern from Rockhurst University. Sack received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Rockhurst University and a PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
“Solving problems is what we are trained to do and that’s what drives us. Our chemists, biologists, and engineers tackle some of the world’s most challenging problems,” said Sack. “Every project requires seamless teamwork and collaboration.”
“The more we learn, the more we want to explore,” he added, “and we’re proud to be advancing science and making a difference in the world.”
It’s not just about research. Sack is an advocate for STEM Education, serving on the Board of Directors of Science Pioneers and previously on the Executive Advisory Committee for FIRST Robotics, Kansas City Region. For the last eight years, MRIGlobal has sponsored a number of programs with the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, including providing mentors, scholarships, and support for the school’s FIRST Robotics team.
Sack also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Sustainable Energy and on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute.
“We believe in collaboration and teamwork to further our research,” he said. “We support entrepreneurs, we embrace innovation, and we help shape the future.”
