In November, groups from around the world are celebrating a collaborative approach to human, animal and environmental health called One Health. On November 1, Kansas City will celebrate, too. BioNexus KC, BioKansas, and Kansas State University, are partnering together for this event hosted at K-State Olathe.
The One Health concept recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. The goal of Kansas City One Health Day is to encourage collaborations across multiple disciplines to achieve optimal health for people, animals, and the environment
The keynote presentation will be provided by Dr. Mike Apley from Kanas State University. His presentation “Antibiotic Resistance — A One Health Perspective” will highlight the critical need to develop prevention strategies to antibiotic resistance with a one health approach. After the keynote, there will be networking and student posters from both high school and undergraduate students.
The event will close with a diverse panel to take questions from the audience:
- Masako Mizusawa, Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases, UMKC and Truman Medical Center
- Mike Apley, Frick Professor of Production Medicine/Clinical Pharmacology, Kansas State University
- Michael T. Meyer, Director of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Organic Geochemistry Research Laboratory
- Nadyne Hagmeier, Quality Improvement Consultant, Kansas Foundation for Medical Care Inc.
