KANSAS CITY, MO – For the fourth consecutive year, Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute (KCALSI) is proud to announce our Science to Art exhibit. This free, public exhibit will be presented at Kemper at the Crossroads from July 21 through September 4, 2017.
The images selected to be featured in this year’s exhibit come from years of research and discovery. Through these images, guests will witness firsthand the beauty behind the repairing of a DNA strand, the atomization of water, an artificial intelligence derived image, fruit fly muscle, cartilage in an alligator’s jaw, and a host of other scientific discoveries. Each image describes a quest for scientific understanding and future cures among our regional scientists. With these images, these scientists are able to describe their passion for arts and the importance of the visual imagery in their research.
“The Kemper Museum is pleased to work so closely with the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute to host the Science to Art exhibition for a second time,” said Erin Dziedzic, Kemper at the Crossroads Director of Curatorial Affairs. “This year at Kemper at the Crossroads, artists’ works bring to life a world often only seen through a microscope revealing, in creative ways, the art of science.”
“It is our pleasure to partner with the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and their curator Erin Dziedzic again for the Science to Art exhibit,” said Dr. Wayne Carter, KCALSI President and Chief Executive Officer. “It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and we believe that is particularly true with scientific images. With the exhibit, the public has the opportunity to appreciate the scientific excellence of our researchers and the amazing beauty in science and biology.
The works in the exhibition will be available through a silent auction held at the 2017 KCALSI Annual Dinner at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland on September 19, 2017. All proceeds from the 2017 Science to Art auction will benefit STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) education in the community through the following organizations: BioGeneius, Prep-KC, Science City and the Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Through its Research Development Grants program, KCALSI manages a variety of individual grants for area corporations and trusts, helping them identify proposals with the best scientific, medical and technical merit. Research grants are awarded to generate initial results and stimulate the submission of major multidisciplinary research proposals to government or private agencies. KCALSI’s Research Development Grants program includes proposal review, evaluation by subject matter experts, written reviews for all applicants, and post-award management.

Kansas City’s renowned FREE contemporary art museum, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art opened in October 1994 and draws more than 100,000 visitors each year.
