Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine appoints Brad White Director of Beef Cattle Institute
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University has appointed Brad White to Director of the Beef Cattle Institute. Since October 2015, White has served as interim director of the institute. He has been on the faculty in the agricultural practices section of the college’s clinical sciences department since 2005, and was elevated to the rank of professor in 2016. More information »
Stem Cell Center at KUMC Nears First Clinical Trial
The Kansas legislature established the Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center in 2013 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, with a focus on producing clinical-grade stem cells from adult tissue and cord blood, rather than from embryos. The center announced that its first clinical trial will be tied to treating graft-versus-host disease. The complication can occur when a patient receives a transplant tissue and the tissue fights the patient’s immune system. More information »
MRIGlobal Wins $13.7M NIH/NIAID Quality Assessment Contract For Mycobacterium Tuberculosis
MRIGlobal has been awarded a contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a part of the National Institutes of Health, to support its Mycobacterium tuberculosis Quality Assessment requirement (known as, “TBQA”). Under the $13.7M contract, MRIGlobal will evaluate Mycobacterium tuberculosis technologies and specimen processes to be used in NIAID-supported clinical investigations and disseminate TBQA technical and scientific data. MU Provost Names Rikoon Dean of Human Environmental Sciences
University of Missouri Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Garnett S. Stokes announced that J. Sanford “Sandy” Rikoon, Curators Professor of Rural Sociology at MU, has been named dean of the University of Missouri College of Human Environmental Sciences, effective immediately. Saint Luke’s Health System Opening New Micro-Hospitals in Region
Saint Luke’s Health System confirmed plans to open a new micro-hospital near the BluHawk development in Overland Park, just across from an emergency department Shawnee Mission Health opened. “It’s designed for quick service. Our goal is to have you in and out of the hospital, or in a hospital bed, in 45 minutes,” said Bob Bonney, senior vice president of nonacute services and business development for Saint Luke’s.
